Mount Isa Aquatics in the running for Outstanding Community Service Award

Date: 29 April 2012
Mount Isa in running for Award

Lane 4’s Mount Isa Aquatics have been nominated for the 2012 Swim Australia Outstanding Community Service Award, as a result of their dedication in promoting and developing swimming in rural west QLD.

It comes as no surprise that Mount Isa Aquatics have been nominated for such an award, as they have consistently provided much-needed opportunities for the swimmers and families of regional QLD. Their much-commendable efforts have come in many forms, organising a range of different camps, clinics and championship events.

For example, the running of the Swim Australia Teacher and Swim Australia Teacher of Babies and Toddlers course, has proven to be one of many huge successes. Mount Isa has taken the LTS enrolments in town from a small 200 a season to an impressive 1300+ a season. The infants program now makes up over 200 students a week, and continues to increase each term.

Mount Isa Aquatics works very closely with the local primary and secondary schools to promote and run their swimming programs. The Bill Sweetenham clinic, along with the introduction of a sanctioned qualifying swim meet in rural QLD, has also contributed to the award nomination.

Overall, this is a shining reflection of how hard work and dedication can go a very long way. A huge congratulations goes out to Brian and Bernadette Rodriquez (faculty managers), and the team at Lane 4 Aquatics Mount Isa.
