Mount Isa Aquatics wins Outstanding Community Service Award!

Date: 30 April 2012
Huge achievement for Mount Isa!

Mount Isa Aquatics is very honoured to receive this year’s Swim Australia Outstanding Community Service Award, proudly supported by Australia Unity.

The award was presented at this year’s National ASCTA (Australian Swim Coaches and Teachers Association) Convention at the Gold Coast from the April 24th – May 1st. Both Brian and Bernadette Rodriquez (facility managers of Lane 4 Aquatics Mount Isa) attended the conference, where they had the pleasure of participating in lectures from Australia’s top National and International coaches.

On the April 30th, Brian and Bernadette attended the Swim Australia Awards Dinner at Sofitel; it was a night to celebrate and honour those businesses that helped develop swimming over the past 12 months. Laurie Lawrence was the night’s MC, speaking to over 160 people from the industry. Mount Isa Aquatics received the incredible award for their work in developing swimming in the community and across West QLD, through new events and initiatives. Brian and Bernadette proudly collected the award from 2 of Australia’s Olympians; Laurie Lawrence, as well as a representative from Australia Unity.

Brian and Bernadette thoroughly enjoyed their time at the conference, listening to a number of insightful lectures, including this year’s guest speaker Paulus Wildeboer (Danish Head Coach). They also attended the Laurie Lawrence Swim School in Brisbane for a full day of PD on teaching babies and toddlers. Also attending the day were Cindy and Johnny Johnson, the leaders in teaching babies and toddlers in America. Brian and Bernadette came away from the day with a wealth of knowledge and totally new lesson plans, which will really define the Learn To Swim sessions in the coming season.

More than 100 people who were completing their Bronze Coaching Course attended the last 3 days of the conference. Bernadette attended this function as part of her scholarship, and has since completed her Bronze License. She was one of only 10 women who were awarded a scholarship from across Australia – a massive achievement!

Overall, the conference a fantastic opportunity for both Brian and Bernadette, and is sure to add depth and experience to the coaching staff for next season. A huge congratulations to Mount Isa Aquatics for their incredible achievement, Lane 4 is very proud!
