Full team rosters from all districts of Queensland put on a fine display of sportsmanship and top class water polo performances at the recent ‘Education Qld State Water Polo Championship.’

As the teams stood strong singing the National Anthem, it was the first time the newly developed facility had hosted such a high class event. Mayor Strelow declared the games open, with facility providers Lane 4 Aquatics’ honoured to cater for the competition.

Teams being represented:

  • Capricornia
  • Met East
  • Met West
  • Met North
  • Darling Downs
  • South Coast
  • Sunshine Coast
  • Northern

Both boys and girls divisions played seven games each on Saturday 15th March to ensure they received their best grade and seeding. From there a busy three days of rounds and semi- finals would lead to the pinnacle- the finals on Tuesday morning.

Capricornia boys had a close game in the Gold Plate final and secured a second place finish; while the Capricornia girls successfully secured bronze, winning their final match in an all-class bout.

Compliments galore were expressed, highly commending the facility, Rockhampton and the local people.

Lane 4 Aquatics were very appreciative to have been given the opportunity to cater for such a high calibre event, and were entirely satisfied with its’ smooth running and entertainment factor.

Hopefully this will be the first of many competitions to come, in a tremendous complex such as the South Rockhampton Memorial Pool.
