29th National Master Championships 2014

Date: 1 June 2014

The South Rockhampton swimming pool has added another hugely successful event to their 2014 calendar, recently hosting the Australian Masters Swimming Championships. The event was held from April 23rd - April 26th, with over 400 swimmers from across the country keen to compete against the nation's best. The highly competitive meet kicked off with the 400m Individual Medley, attracting swimmers from 18 to 85 years young.

Lane 4 Aquatics were eager to host the event, unveiling the newly constructed amenities for the very first time. The 25m pool covers also earned a maiden removal, with swimmers christening the pool for warm-ups on day one of competition. Feedback on the new facilities was much anticipated, with staff working around the clock in the lead up to the renowned event. Competitors were not disappointed – labeling the event “hugely successful” and the facilities “second to none”.

Lane 4 Aquatics facilities manager Ronan Foolkes spoke highly of the competition, stating, "giving Lane 4 Aquatics the opportunity to cater for a national competition is an honour and we were privileged to help host this meet”

Competition was fierce for the duration of the meet, with swimmers battling it out for club, relay and individual accolades. On the final day however, reputations were at stake with the commencement of ‘State against State’ relays. Competitors and staff enjoyed the spectacle, ending the meet on a high. The ‘Vorgee Female swimmer of the meet’ was awarded to Jenny Whiteley of NSW, while the ‘Vorgee Male Swimmer of the Meet’ went to Mark Thompson from Victoria.
