Kurt's national title count triples

Date: 26 August 2014

Earlier this month at the National Aquatic Centre in Sydney, Kurt Lorme represented Emu Park Surf Lifesaving Club and in doing so broke three national records.

The grade 8 student took his first podium in the 100m obstacles. In the heat prior to Kurts, the under 13 Queensland champion was leading the table with a new national record. However to everyone’s surprise this record did not secure the leader a medal. In the final heat of the day Kurt lead his heat home, with the top three guys all breaking the newly set record.

From being the Queensland silver medallist Kurt is now the National Champion and newly crowned National Record holder for this event.

To conclude his winning streak Kurt secured gold in the 50m Brick carry, and 50m Swim-fins, both in national records, posting a time of 24.00, beating the previous record of 24.05 seconds.

Next on the calendar for the Rockhampton Grammar student is the North Australian Championships on October 24th in Mackay, with aims to qualify again for the Queensland Country Team. Last season three swimmers from the four representatives in Kurt’s age group were all members of Emu Park Surf Lifesaving Club, a great achievement for a local team.

“It was 1991 when Emu Park Surf Lifesaving Club had won their last National title in the pool, having young fresh athletes coming through is great to see”.

Mr Milburn praised Kurt for the dedication and hard work in the pool. Kurt is now looking forward to a season with racing with Caribeae Swimming Club concentrating on the 50m & 100m Backstroke, along with the 100m Freestyle.
